Delaware is on the verge of turning its civil unions bill into law. The State House passed the bill today on a 26-15 vote after the bill cleared the State Senate in a 13-6 vote last week. The bill now goes to the Governor’s desk who has already expressed support for the measure. Once the law goes into effect January 1 of next year it will make Delaware the 9th state in the union to have civil unions or comprehensive domestic partnerships.
That makes Delaware, Hawai’i and Illinois all passing civil union bills this year. I’d say that’s progress, no?
