Tom Gable of Against Me! Comes Out as Transgender!

Tom Gabel, lead singer of one of my all-time favorite bands, Against Me!, has just come out as transgender reports Rolling Stone.

“Gabel, who has dealt privately with gender dysphoria for years, will soon begin the process of transition, by taking hormones and undergoing electrolysis treatments.

Gabel will eventually take the name Laura Jane Grace, and will remain married to her wife Heather. “For me, the most terrifying thing about this was how she would accept the news,” says Gabel. “But she’s been super-amazing and understanding.”

Learn tons of great LGBT history at the Pop-Up Philadelphia exhibit!

The William Way Community Center and The Pop-Up Museum of Queer History have teamed up to give us Pop-Up Philadelphia, a month long exhibition dedicated to the lesser known aspects of queer history.

The exhibition opened April 21st, and will close May 19th, and will be on the ground floor of The William Way Community Center. Pop-Up Philadelphia is featuring a huge variety of exhibits to shed some light on largely unknown histories of queer communities in Philly and all over the globe. Some of the exhibits are:

  • A primary source documentation of the use of drag in Philadelphia Mummers’ Parades dating back to the 1880s
  • A sculptural memorial for queer communities in Uganda threatened by a proposed law that makes queerness punishable by death
  • A video history project about the lives of black lesbian elders.

New awesome ad from Ray-Band’s ‘Never Hide’ campaign!

This is the latest development in Ray-Ban’s “Never Hide” ad campaign, and I’ve got to say it is a good one. They started the campaign in 2007 to appeal to younger consumers, and I think they’re doing a great job. Kids these days love everything retro, and this 1940′s style picture does a great job capturing that. Some are even calling it Ray-Ban’s first gay ad, and if that’s the case I think we can expect much more in the future!

New TV ads aired in the fight against North Carolina’s Amendment One

May 8th will be the day North Caroliners vote on whether or not to amend their constitution to openly include discrimination. From the latest push for money to clear some of the confusion about Amendment One, Protect NC Families has raised enough money for a couple of T.V. ads informing people that not only will Amendment One not allow gays and lesbians to marry, but health care for children can be dropped and it puts the safety of domestic violence victims at risk.
