I think by now we have all heard of the “whoopsie!” moment that GOProud had with Governor Rick Perry’s campaign pollster and strategist Tony Fabrizio. They outed him, accidentally. They didn’t know he wasn’t out. As Chris Barron, from GOProud, said on his twitter account on December 8th:
I don’t believe in outing – but if you live your life like an openly gay man how the hell am I supposed to assume you are closeted
“From the time this organization was founded we have been clear in our opposition to outing. We would never intentionally out anyone. However, in the case of Tony Fabrizio, top pollster and chief strategist for the Presidential campaign of Texas Governor Rick Perry, we did not believe there was any question about his sexual orientation – nor did the reporters who called us to ask about his involvement in Perry’s anti-gay campaign strategy. Questions about an individual’s sexual orientation should obviously be answered by that individual.

Canada, our friendly neighbor, has a some good things going for it, gay marriage, good healthcare, and maple syrup. But recently the National Post ran an ad that was transphobic and greatly offensive. The first few lines are “PLEASE don’t confuse me! I’m a girl. Don’t teach me to question if I’m a boy, transexual, transgender, intersexed, or two-spirited.”
Thankfully those at the National Post recognized their mistake and have issued an apology.
“Earlier this week the National Post ran an advertisement that has caused some controversy. The ad, bought by the Institute for Canadian Values, argued against aspects of the Ontario school curriculum that include instruction about certain aspects of human sexuality. Specifically, it objected to teaching young children — those between junior kindergarten and Grade 3 — about transsexual/transgender/intersexed/two-spirited issues.
Springville, California is a quiet, foothill community in Central California, midway between Los Angeles and San Francisco. A conservative area, the town is situated just above the great Central Valley, home to much of the nation’s agricultural production. Westboro could be stepping into a real hornet’s nest, if they actually show up.

This is a very sad day. The gay news site 365gay.com is coming to an end. I am not sure of the reasons for this, as Logo should be able to sustain the blog financially. I have been reading 365gay for years. I love the format of the site. I also love the voices and opinions.
When I heard about Queerty closing, I wasn’t really upset. I had never really read the site. With 365gay closing, I am deeply upset. I go to 365gay.com at least 3 times a day to catch up on news. I like the layout of the blog and the style. I enjoy it when the readers post their comments and the writers reply. I love the simplicity of the older layout (the new one is still nice, but not as simplistic). Continue reading
High school teacher Jerry Buell was suspended by the Lake County School Florida school board after sharing his thoughts about how the “sin[ful]” ”cesspool” of marriage equality made him “almost throw up”. Well Superintendent Susan Moxley found that Buell did not violate the code of conduct and will Buell resume teaching on Thursday. Superintendent Moxley also issued Buell a list of directives, but those won’t become a matter of public record for another ten days.
If I was enrolled in his class, after this I would definitely want to change my schedule around so I wouldn’t have him as a teacher anymore. I know as a student, it would become very distracting for me and knowing his personal views, I wouldn’t be able to take him seriously. Which is also why there are rules against discussing personal politics in class, so your personal views don’t (even unintentionally) alienate any of your students.
UN human rights chief Navi Pillay looks back at the evolution of the gay rights debate at the United Nations. International law requires States to eliminate discrimination against lesbians, gays, bisexuals and transgender people, and to protect everyone from violent hate crimes. The Universal Declaration of Human Rights is just that: it is universal and applies to us all — whoever we are, whatever we look like, whoever we share our lives with.
As most know, if you’re a man who has had any sort of sexual contact with another man since 1977, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) says you can’t donate blood. Period. Well thanks to our friends Senator John Kerry and Congressman Mike Quigley, that is being reconsidered.
A press release from John Kerry’s website:
In a question and answer document requested by Senator Kerry and Congressman Quigley, HHS laid out four final areas for additional study needed to implement a policy change.
“We’ve been working on this a long time in a serious way and I’m glad Secretary Sebelius responded with concrete steps to finally remove this policy from the books,” said Sen. Kerry. “HHS is doing their due-diligence and we plan to stay focused on the end game – a safe blood supply and an end to this discriminatory ban.”
