Sports has come a long ways in some respects, but without an openly gay current pro athlete there is still some ways to go. New York University’s out and proud volleyball captain Jay Hayes is trying to change that. He directed the It Gets Better video to send a message to gay athletes everywhere, “It gets better, because we make it better.”

Rick Santorum on Pink Bowling Balls

REALLY, Rick??  You just make it too easy for us bloggers. Are you honestly so homophobic (and ignorant) that even pink bowling balls are a threat to you?

For those who don’t know, Rick Santorum recently told a young man in Wisconsin that he wasn’t allowed to use a pink bowling ball! I can only guess why he was so adamant about it, but I suspect it was about not wanting the boy to appear gay or effeminate. Or maybe he is so homophobic that he didn’t even want to be around someone who MIGHT be gay. I wonder, though, how he can stand to be in the presence of his supposedly gay friends.

Rick Santorum on Gay Marriage (No Surprises Here)

“Is anyone saying same-sex couples can’t love each other? I love my children. I love my friends, my brother. Heck, I even love my mother-in-law. Should we call these relationships marriage, too?”-Rick Santorum

This is one of the most ridiculous things I’ve heard anyone say about gay marriage. Presumably, he is not in a romantic relationship with his children, friends, brother, or mother-in-law. I’m giving him the benefit of the doubt here, whether justified or not. His statement doesn’t even make sense to me. Is he denying that same-sex couples have a romantic relationship, which is why it makes sense to compare it to other non-romantic, non-sexual relationships? Or is he trying to suggest that, if people of the same sex are in a relationship, then they are also prone to having ‘inappropriate’ relationships with others in their lives? Continue reading

A message from Eric Harrison

I received this update from Eric Harrison, formerly of Love Honor Cherish, and I thought I’d pass it along for our readers.  I wish him the best of luck in his new endeavors.

Spring  is here! A time of new beginnings. It’s also the time of the year that I’m  anxiously anticipating blowing out the candles again, especially as I’m about  to turn 35. The years go by all too fast as loved ones pass on, metabolisms  slow down and the world evolves rapidly around us.

LGBT Indiana Youth Group License Plate Gets Nixed

For a short while those in Indiana could spread the love and show support for the LGBT community with an awesome Indiana Youth Group license plate, but now thanks to Republican legislators that has come to an end.

In the beginning Republican legislators tried to sneak a law through at the end of the last legislative session that would revoke the IYG license plate, and targets the use of specialty plates in general. Failing that, 20 Senators signed a letting sent to the BMV challenging Indiana Youth Group’s contract because they were giving low-digit plates as “thank-you’s” to those who donated (which I guess is a bad thing).

St Petersburg’s ‘Gay Propaganda’ bill signed into law

While the (sane) wold protested and condemned St Petersburg’s ‘Gay Propaganda’ bill, the regional governor went ahead and sign the bill into law last Sunday. The ban doesn’t take effect for 10 days however, giving protesters and until next Wednesday to continue speaking out against such bigotry without paying steep fines (but in all likelihood still getting arrested).  Continue reading
