Spreading HIV is criminal

Many moons ago I knew someone who knew someone in a group of friends I had when I first came out and when I first launched the old Queer Fresno.  For the purposes of this blog we’ll call him “John Doe” because he still lives in Fresno and still knows some people I know and I don’t want to drudge up old drama.  John and I had a big disagreement around how he handled his HIV status and I was reminded of him last week when an Atlanta pastor was caught sleeping with women in his church and knowingly spreading HIV.

7 Easy Ways To Get More Out Of Your Workout

I read this article on Bing Health & Fitness. I’m an old school swimmer and water polo player. We didn’t wear “jammies” we wore speedos. I’ve coached and ref’d and am an avid lover of working out. It makes me uneasy when modern science debunks habits and paradigms that were cemented for me as an athlete many moons ago but this article seems to be on the up and up.

Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead

[vimeo 18732737 w=500 h=281]

I watched this documentary recently and have to say it inspired me. It’s about Joe Cross. a guy who has chronic health conditions and decides, after trying many other ways to treat it, to try a 60 day juice fast to try to cure it. I don’t know about you, but a week of juice seems like a very long time to me. He was desperate to repair his health and lose weight, so he went on this juice fast (with regular medical supervision). He had been a junk food eater and so this was a major change for him. He decided he wanted to see if the body could heal itself, similar to the way it does when you have a cut.

A simple guide to the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare)

Tonight, thanks to House Republicans, the government shutdown all but certain. And yes, they’re really going to cost the taxpayers millions just because they don’t agree with the Affordable Care Act, which is already law I might ad, and because it has Obama’s name on it. I didn’t get this up last week like I wanted to, but I thought it would be prudent to share exactly what is the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare) actually does. Thankfully the White House made a super easy-to-follow video explaining it. Check it out after the jump!

Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation

HIV negative

I just watched the most compelling 60 minutes segment on the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and all the fascinating work they are doing all over the world.  I’m literally speechless.  I’ve been very aware of Bill Gates and his move from Corporate America to the altruistic work he’s been doing to conquer treatable sickness and disease in third world counties.  This updated 60 Minutes piece I watched just jarred me all over again.

Want to look younger? Have more sex!

lets get nekkid.Well well well! A new study out of Britain by Dr. David Weeks is claiming that sex is the key to looking younger. Read the excerpt from the Daily News below:

“My message is that lovemaking is good,” Dr. David Weeks told the British Psychological Society. Former head of old age psychology at the Royal Edinburgh Hospital, Weeks said he spent a decade prying into the private lives of thousands of men and women of all ages. Weeks found that sexual pleasure is a “crucial factor” in preserving youth. How? Lovemaking releases the human growth hormone, which helps keep the skin elastic and thus less likely to wrinkle, he said.

Meet Katy

I kindly introduce you to one of our newest sponsors and financial supporters of our blog!

About me right now;  I’m living in MN with my 3 children, one born 4/7/08 (1 day late) and the other 5/15/10 (5 days early) and #3 due June 2012 and 6/12 would have been an awesome birthday but she was born of 5/31 – 2 weeks early.  I moved to MN with a cat and a boyfriend, a VW golf and a Saturn SL (and a moving truck) and now the BF is the husband, our poor kitty from PA is gone but we have a 2 new cats. The Golf  turned into a Mini Van and the Saturn turned into a Prius.  We moved yearly for years but now we own our house plus some rental property and have not moved in 5+ years.  Life changes a lot in 10 years.
