Rhode Island to recognize same-sex marriages
“Well I do declare, y’all should be treated equal!”
While still mourning the loss of Civil Unions in Colorado and the tragic loss in North Carolina, it’s nice to have something to celebrate. Governor Lincoln Chafee of Rhode Island has issued an executive order for all state agencies to recognize all same-sex marriages performed legally in other states. From the Associated Press:
The executive order is expected to have many real-world implications. Same-sex spouses of state employees and anyone covered by an insurance company regulated in Rhode Island will be entitled to health and life insurance benefits, gay rights advocates say.

London’s “Gay Free Zone” Perp sent to prison for Al-Qaeda materials
The man who was arrested for posting the “Gay Free Zone” stickers around London last year has now been sent to prison for possessing Al-Qaeda materials. From Pink News:
“Hasnath had copies of the group’s ‘Inspire’ magazine on a memory stick, PA reports, and was sentenced to 14 months’ imprisonment under the Terrorism Act. He was also given a one-month custodial term, to run concurrently, for painting burkhas over images of women in deodorant adverts. [...] Hasnath, 19, of Leamouth, Tower Hamlets, pleaded guilty last year to a public order offence and was fined £100 plus £85 costs and a £15 victim surcharge after he put up posters around the area declaring it a ‘gay free zone’.
When told the allegation against him of a public order offence of using threatening or abusive words or behaviour between 11-14 February, Hasnath reportedly said: “But I just put up stickers, I didn’t harass or swear at anybody or anything.”

This is what Crazy sounds like: Nebraska hearing on LGBT ordinance
Here we have Crazy Lady Jane Skrovota giving her testimony at a hearing on a proposed LGBT non-discrimination ordinance in Lincoln, Nebraska. Well, it’s less of a testimony and more of a “I’ll string the most absurd insults I can think of and hope it comes out in a complete sentence” rant. The best parts of the video are the reactions from the guy sitting behind her. Pay attention to him.

Argentina passes Gender Identity Law- Leads the way in Transgender Equality
Yesterday Argentina passed the Gender Identity bill in a 55-0 Senate vote, making Argentina the world leader in Transgender rights. The bill allows for transgender people to change the gender listed on their ID and receive help for sex-change operations without further cost from their health care provider, the AP Reports.
“Any adult will now be able to officially change his or her gender, image and birth name without having to get approval from doctors or judges – and without having to undergo physical changes beforehand, as many U.S. jurisdictions require. Continue reading
