Cesar Milan, the Dog Whisperer, has made a “It Gets Better” video. Milan came to the United States poor and unable to speak English. He even lived on the street for two months. Things have changed for Milan, and he reminds us to go with our gifts, and we each have them, and things will get better.
CNN’s Wofl Blitzer today asked former United States Secretary of State and Joint Chief of Staff Colin Powell about marriage equality, and if he agreed with the President. Powell replied that he “had no problem with it”.
Powell was Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff at the Pentagon when Congress passed the now infamous “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell (and the forgotten Don’t Pursue)” policy in the mid-1990′s. He first supported the repeal of DADT, and now comes out in support of marriage equality.
The notion of God, whatever or whoever s/he is, hating anything runs completely counter to any idea I’ve ever heard or could ever embrace about a Creator or the Life Force in the Universe. But sometimes you have to meet the opposing team on their playing field, in which spirit we will stipulate, for the sake of this argument, that God is an old, white Christian man with a long white beard mired in resentment and hatred towards His own creation. It’s a stretch, but stay with me.
We’ve all seen the signs: God Hates Fags! God Hates America (except for the First Amendment part)! God Hates Everyone Except Me!! They are painted and waved by the members (all related) of an itty bitty Kansas “church” that is founded on the one and only belief that homosex is the worst of all possible sins, and that God works tirelessly to destroy our nation and its citizens as retribution for “allowing” it to happen (because there might be a way to stop it). They picket at Pride parades and military funerals and basically anyplace where they figure they’ll be able to get a good spot in front of the cameras, and obsessively spew this singular message. As you probably already know, today is Harvey Milk Day. Today is a day for reflection. To reflect on how Harvey Milk and others advanced human rights, and the cost at which that progress sometimes comes. Stuart Milk, Harvey Milk’s nephew and president of the Harvey Milk Foundation, wrote about his uncle in the 3rd Official Harvey Milk Day Statement:
+++++
Today my uncle would have been 82 years old, however, he gave us his life 32 years ago knowing that the first of any civil rights movement, who so clearly and loudly proclaim their right to equality, most often meets a violent and sudden end.
Today is Harvey Milk Day. An official statewide day of remembrance for one of the most significant figures is GLBT history and the fight for gay rights. If you don’t already know, Harvey Milk was the first openly gay, publicly-elected official in the country and was out and proud when it was not at all fashionable. In fact, the idea that anyone would openly campaign for any public office as an in-your-face homosexual was not only revolutionary it was just plain dangerous. If you haven’t made any plans or are looking for something maybe to do in honor of Harvey, check out this page.
Reblogged from honeyimalesbian:
Androgilez: You think she’s a lesbian, but she’s so androgynous you aren’t sure, she just might like to downplay her femininity. She’s pretty but sensitive so you’re afraid to ask. They usually hang out with such a variety of people, you have a hard time pinpointing anything about her unless you actually got to know her.
It’s Monday again, and you know what that means. More from Matt Baume with Marriage News Watch.
“A leaked memo urges an about-face for anti-equality Republicans. A civil unions bill dies in Colorado, for now. But access to marriage expands in Rhode Island, and more new surveys confirm the ever-growing public support for equality.”
This picture embodies what many of our LGBT brothers and sisters around the world are facing.
Yesterday the police of Kiev, Ukraine told LGBT activists they had to cancel what would’ve been their first-ever pride parade, because 500+ homophobic counter protesters with ‘seemingly’ violent intent were on their way to disrupt the parade. While wide spread violence was averted, pockets of violence like the photo above did break out.
Svyatoslav Sheremet, is the head of the Gay Forum of Ukraine, and is the man who you see in the photo above being viciously attacked by three right-wing extremists. The counter-protesters ran when they realized the media wast recording their assault.
