A brief history
This project began in January of 2002 when a few friends got together and launched Queer Fresno; a news and information site for all things gay in Fresno, California. In early 2006 we turned the site into a blog and started recruiting writers from the community to contribute. The project would never be the same! Later that summer we expanded in the Central Valley of California and opened up 5 more blogs in Stockton, Modesto, Merced, Visalia, and Bakersfield. In 2008 we expanded to Philadelphia, Miami, and Dallas and by 2010 we had ambitiously launched blogs in Long Beach, Oakland, and Phoenix. We were operating 12 blogs in 5 different states at one point and we knew we were on to something pretty unique and special and that we weren’t done evolving.
In early 2011 we began to brainstorm how we could be bigger and better and cover more ground but do so more efficiently. We opened up Queer Landia initially as an experimental site that would serve as a ”catch all” blog for news and information that didn’t fall into the 12 cities we were already in. By the end of 2011 Queer Landia had steadily grown and had clearly become our new flagship blog. It also allowed us to cover any event anywhere around the country and the world with great flexibility. We’ve been picking up readers from quite literally all over the globe ever since. Jim, Nate, and I then made the decision to roll up all of our 12 local blogs, at least for the time being, under the umbrella of the new, mighty Queer Landia.
Our mission is the same but our footprint and audience is now global. We are still evolving to be sure and our reach and readership is growing every week as well. We’re very excited and very proud of what we have accomplished with Project Q thus far and make no mistake about it folks: We’ve only just begun to blog!
