National Crayola Crayon Day

I know it’s late but I totally have to share this with you. Today is National Crayola Crayon day. If there is one part of my childhood I extremely enjoyed it is coloring with my  Granny, sisters, cousins, and friends. There was nothing like a fresh box of crayons and a brand new coloring book or a sketch pad. I have watched as Crayola has developed over the years, from colors to colored pencils. markers, chalk etc…

Crayola has been around since 1885 by Edwin Bienny and C. Harold Smith in New York City; they formed a partnership in 1902 becoming Bienny and Smith Inc.

Fun Fact  :   Did you know that Bienny and Smith had open a factory in Winfield, KS in 1952 ?

( Just thought I would throw that out there. Yours Truly is a native Kansan. Always liked looking and smiling at the back of the crayon boxes to see Bienny and Smith Factory Inc. Winfield, KS)

So in honor of Crayola day get a pack of crayons, a coloring book or favorite sketch pad. Tonight or this week spend time and unplug. Inspire and Create.

What’s your favorite Crayola crayon color?

Mine would be a toss up because I like them all but if I had to choose it would be a toss up between Violet (purple), Violet-Blue, Mulberry, Lemon Yellow, and Midnight Blue.

Here is a short video about how Crayola makes its crayons. Enjoy =)

  1. The sense of smell is hard-wired into the deep memory centers of our brains. The smell of Crayolas instantly transports me back to my kindergarten classroom. Amazing.
