This week has been a blur already but I wanted to stop and take time to give us a birthday shout out! Queer Landia officially turned 3 years old Monday and I wanted to jot down my thoughts before the week slipped by.
First of all let me say what an honor and privilege it is to be a part of such a great project. We have so many loyal followers and it’s really amazing that literally thousands and thousands of people read our blogs each and every week. Second I wanted to say thanks to the fine bloggers that have joined this project. Most of them volunteer their time and effort to help build something we all can be proud of and I appreciate that. Lastly I want to say thank you to all of our SPONSORS who financially support QL. They help us keep the site and services we offer completely free for our readers and we would be hard pressed to continue without their continued support.
This year our anniversary fell on Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day and as I reflected this week on the vision of that great leader I am struck by the struggle and sacrifice of the Civil Right Movement. I am struck by the struggle and sacrifice of other leaders like him, like Harvey Milk, who fought (and died) for gay rights. I think of the struggles we still have today with racism and discrimination. I think of the fact that so many states still do not have equal access to marriage for gays and lesbians. Civil rights are gay rights are too and they are so worth fighting for, right? We will continue to be a part of the conversation around pride and equality and be yet another loud, proud, and independent voice for all things queer.
Happy 3rd birthday QL. I gifted you a new look and a fresh layout today as we gear up for 2014 and strive to better than we’ve ever been before!
