Families are forever

montgomery

In 2008, the Montgomery’s of Bakersfield, California, walked the streets to support Proposition 8, the ballot initiative that took marriage rights away from same-gender couples after the state’s Supreme Court ruled the earlier Proposition 22 initiative unconstitutional.

Bakersfield PFLAG will be screening the Family Acceptance Project film, Families Are Forever on November 7, 2013.  The film takes us on the journey from knocking on doors in Bakersfield in support of Prop 8, to accepting their 13 year old gay son.  Now strongly active in the struggle to change the Mormon Church from within, the Montgomery’s story is told in this riveting short film.

Bakersfield PFLAG meets at 7pm this November 7, at the First Congregational Church, 5 Real Rd., Bakersfield, CA.

  1. I’ve had the pleasure of meeting the Montgomery’s at several PFLAG meetings. They are an incredible family, and are certainly the type of people the Mormon Church needs to have working from within. That church has a long way to go, as we’ve seen recently with their actions in Hawaii, but if the Montgomery’s have any say in the matter, progress will be made.
