Crazy woman finishes swim from Cuba to Florida!

I’ve posted about Diana Nyad before, when she tried to the same swim from Havana, Cuba to the Florida Keys on her 4th attempt last year. Now, at 64 years-old, after battling sharks, fatigue, and painful box jellyfish she has completed the swim on her 5th attempt! She swam 110 miles of open ocean in 53 hours. That is insane!

Diana told CBS during the swim, her mantra was  “find a way.”

“It doesn’t matter … what you come up against because none of it’s going to be pleasant. You’re hardly ever out there going, ‘Oh, my God, isn’t it a beautiful moon tonight?’ The crew is feeling that. But you’re kind of suffering through the whole thing. So my thought was, ‘everything you come up against say — and this is why people are relating to my story — all of us suffer heartache. All of us suffer difficulties in our lives. And if you say to yourself ‘find a way,’ you’ll make it through.”

Congratulations on finishing the swim! You never gave up, and it has paid off! You can read more details about how Diana and her team pulled this gigantic feat off at their website.

Remember everyone, in the words of Diana Nyda, “You’re never too old to live your dreams.”

  1. I saw some highlights of one of her press conferences. I loved her attitude. She was so humble by saying this wasn’t just about her, but about her team. I also loved how Diana said that she wanted her legacy to be known as you never give up and you’re never too old. I’m almost 30 and just recently went back to college. I often think I’m too old and then I hear things like that and it reminds me that I’m not too old. I hope I’m in as good physical shape as she is when I’m 64.

    1. I don’t think you’re ever too old to go back to school. My dad went back when he was in his 50′s. My first semester of college there was a gentleman in his late 70′s going to school just for fun!
