Wellcast, is an internet show, focusing on self-esteem, whose target audience is youth, has a new video up, on how to come out as LGBTQ. For some people, it isn’t seen as inclusive of the total LGBTQ community, for it doesn’t mention Lesbian, Bisexual, or Transgender. It just says Gay. I generally like to see and hear about all of us, in most media and promotions, but, does it always have to be that way? I think not.
My take with Wellcast, is that they most likely used Gay to encompass all the segments of the LGBTQ community, and not to discredit any of the aforementioned. I think you might agree, that there are many pages and sites, that are not all-encompassing of the community, and who have a narrow focus especially designed to get their particular message out. I’m for that as well.
The important issue for me, is that Wellcast has a message for young gays, and it’s a message that’s designed to give some sense of comfort and belonging to a world that is new and sometimes scary. Whether narrowly focused or not, we need as many support type groups as possible to direct these young people to, because we all know, that all of them aren’t getting the message.
