Cardinal Keith O’Brien has made sure it is no secret that not only does he dislike gays, but views them as less than human. O’Brien has called gays a “defection of human nature” and now it looks like the saying ‘methinks he doth protest too much’ carries some weight.
Now Cardinal O’Brien has stepped down following allegations of inappropriate behavior from three priests and a former priest, and will not participate in electing the next Pope.
The most senior Catholic cleric in Britain, Cardinal Keith O’Brien of St Andrews and Edinburgh, has been forced to resign ahead of schedule following allegations that he made homosexual advances to younger clergy in his diocese – and isn’t expected to attend the conclave to elect the next Pope. There will now be no Briton in the Sistine Chapel when voting takes place. O’Brien’s early resignation is believed to have been at the personal insistence of Benedict XVI, in one of his last acts as Pope.
The Cardinal denies the allegations, whose publication has been carefully timed – but his decision will remind the cardinals meeting in Rome next month that allegations against its clergy have now permeated the entire institution. - Damian Thompson, The Telegraph
The Cardinal was due to retire next month, but as you can see plans had to be expedited. It probably won’t make too much of an impact on who the new Pope will be, being the establishment itself is anti-gay, all I can say is ‘another one bites the dust.’
If you don’t know how Popes are elected, well CCP Gray has a really helpful video that makes sense of the whole process.

No doubt in my mind, that Pope Bene can’t wait to get out of dodge..geez what a frick’n mess they are.
It proves once again that people who live in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones. Which reminds me, didn’t someone once say: “Let those among you free from sin cast the first stone?”
