W imie (In the Name Of), a timely film by Polish filmmaker Malgoska Szumowska, is creating a buzz at the Berlin Film Festival.
In the Name Of tells the story of Adam, a Catholic priest devoted to helping orphaned boys in rural Poland. The film toys with the difficult subject of child abuse in the church, before taking a poignant turn with the arrival of a young man named Lukasz. This unrequited love highlights the cold intolerance of both Adam’s church and Lukasz’s small-town community.
