I was waiting for the BART today when the above ad caught my eye. As I read the ad I thought, “Oh it’s about AIDS, how fitting since today is National Black HIV/AIDS awareness day.” Then I read a little closer and realized it was put up by Chevron. I was a little taken aback, big bad oil company doing something socially right? I was almost floored. I had to check out their website. Next to a similar ad right at the top reads:
At Chevron, we’ve been battling AIDS for more than 25 years. We believe that if we all work together, we can wipe out this terrible disease. Please join the fight by sharing these important facts about AIDS with your family and friends. Watch the videos created by independent filmmakers and get inspired.
AIDS is strong, but together we are stronger.
With all of the tax subsidies Chevron gets, and being the 10th most profitable company in the world, I almost feel like it’s their duty to make humanitarian efforts. However I’ll get more into that later, that’s not what this post is about. This post is a thank you Chevron, for doing something socially responsible. Go ahead and check out their website chevron.com/aids, there’s a few videos about what they’ve done and why AIDS doesn’t stand a chance.

Interesting…I’ve always had a quiet distain for “Big Oil Companies”, but this time, I’ll pull back just enough to say, Thank You Chevron. Now I’ll go back, to my original stance….
I share your sentiments, I thought I’d give them props for actually doing something good before going on a rant haha.
I really like this post Nate. True story: Tom wanted to know this Bart was you were meeting that day! LMAO.
