The investigation into Alabama football coach Bob “Don’t take it personally but you’re an abomination” Girsham for his anti-gay rant and remarks about “fat butt Michelle Obama” is now over, and his punishment will begin. Girsham has to attend sensitivity training, meet with the assistant superintendent, and finally is suspended without pay for ten days.
Of course some are saying the punishment is too harsh, and others say it’s not severe enough. Since this happened in Alabama, I’m just happy he was punished at all and it was more than a slap on the wrist.
I remind you, after ‘Abomination’ Girsham realized he was caught on tape, he told the Times Daily “I misspoke in a debate-type situation. I have no hatred toward anyone or any group. People that know my heart, they know that.”
To that I say ‘If it’s not in the well, it doesn’t come up in the bucket.” You ‘misspoke’ your feeling out loud. To kids. At school. Then you were punished for it. Oops.

What is this world coming to? Where is free speech going? We can’t inuslt anyone we please anymore in the professional world! boo hoo!
‘If it’s not in the well, it doesn’t come up in the bucket.” That is so on point.
Football and those who play/teach it are so often Sacred Cows, especially in competitive high schools and universities. They’re allowed so much leeway because of the team’s prestige, and too often they are allowed to make a supposedly safe environment dangerous. During my time at SMU, I got death threats for challenging football players about their homophobia and the school’s culture that looked the other way. I am very glad to see that changing.
