Hurrah,
After the same sex marriage consultation a few months ago, the UK government has FINALLY published the same sex marriage bill. Which, for interest you can find here, and a BBC article about it here.
Alas, I personally find it woefully inadequate, and a fairly conservative attempt at enforcing LGBT equality in the UK, but… at least we have progress.
The government are making sure that no church or religious group can be forced to hold ceremonies, and same sex marriages. I suppose this is a debate for another day. I am just delirious that at last I will (as long as its voted through) be able to call my ‘civil partner‘ my ‘wife’, which is what she is anyway.
So I have an URGENT call to all those UK bloggers out there in this wonderful bloggisphere….
Seeing as we live in a tory led country, please, can you all write to your MPs urging them to vote through the legislation….
There is an easy website that tells you who your local MP is and how to contact them, just by entering your postcode… which can be found here.
Finally, Stonewall, the UK’s biggest LGBT charity, has created some excellent ecards and posters and banners supporting the legislation… which you can download and put into your emails or letters to your MPs, and can be found here.
The vote is on the 5th February, so we don’t have long to lobby our MPs.
Lets all hold our collective blog hands together in solidarity, and hope that the legislation will pass. Because if it doesn’t, it will be a sad day for us all.

What a great blog….THANKS! Equality is a global cause. Best of luck and yes all you UK bloggers should jump on this! It’ll be here before you know it.
Thanks Mike, I thought it would be nice to bring in a little English news! I think you should recruit LGBT bloggers from all over the world, so we can unite in a global campaign! or maybe I’m just drunk of the activism today!! :p
So cool for all you UK’ers.
I know sorry Tom, I’m assuming your in the states? Obama’s inauguration was very pro equality though… There’s hope yet??
Yes…from the states…and there’s always hope…)))
Reblogged this on msdream722.
I will keep my fingers crossed and drink plenty of English Tea!
