I like your thoughts and shall be keeping up with your events… Great blog!
I think there’s been some tremendously good news lately. Throughout the Western Hemisphere, Europe, and even pockets of Asia. For Jamaica, the Carribean’s worst LGBT offender, to be considering a non-discrimination law is MASSIVE. Several South American countries are marching rapidly towards equality, and the States are almost kicking into warp speed, at least in the courts and state legislatures. Despite the protests in Paris, Europe’s writing is clearly on the wall. There’s surprising bursts of progress in Vietnam, Taiwan, even Mainland China. I think the battle currently brewing over censorship is going to be one of the biggest stories of 2013 and can only mean good things for the LGBT community there. Russia is bad, but I sense that we’re reaching a cap to the madness there. There’s a constantly simmering resistance to the country’s backwards slide.
Unfortunately, there’s no good news out of Africa, which remains firmly seated in the intolerant past. I haven’t seen one glimmer of hope or promise from that continent since South Africa. I’m not sure how anyone can break through the black magic that religion, poverty, and disease have cast. It’s a very bad time to be queer in Cameroon.
