St. Petersburg approves LGBT rally despite “Gay propaganda” ban
UPDATE: Authorization for the Pride march revoked, activists plan to proceed anyway.
As crazy as it sounds, authorities in St. Petersburg have approved a LGBT civil rights protest march and rally on July 7 at the Polyustrovo Park. Sounds too good to be true right? The catch is only 1,000 protesters can attend, and as RIA Novosti reports, Polyustrovo Park is far from the city center.
So despite the law banning “propaganda of homosexuality and pedophilia among minors,” the LGBT civil rights march will go forward. While it’s a great moment to be recognized by the government, we’ll have to wait and see how this all plays out.
Stay tuned, I’ll be posting updates as soon as we know more.
