More good news for the gay community and sports! Wade Davis, former player for the Seattle Seahawks, Washington Redskins, and Tennessee Titans, talks with SBNation’s Amy Nelson about being in the closet while playing in the NFL and his current work at New York’s LGBT Community center, the Hetrick-Martin Institute.
In the full interview with Cyd Zeigler from OutSports.com, Davis describes why he never told any of his teammates about his sexuality. “You just want to be one of the guys, and you don’t want to lose that sense of family,” Davis says. “Your biggest fear is that you’ll lose that camaraderie and family. I think about how close I was with Jevon and Samari. It’s not like they’d like me less, it’s that they have to protect their own brand.”
Now we have seen several former players leave the closet, how long until a current player comes out?
