We C.A.R.E Fresno and their year in review

We’re adding We C.A.R.E Fresno to the POZ page today.  They submitted their link a while back when we first launched the page dedicated to HIV/AIDS resources but it got lost in my inbox.  We applaud every group and every organization in every city that works to provide services and education to everyone who is affected by HIV and AIDS.  While this is not a gay disease as many would still like for us to believe, we do have an obligation to take care of our own.  Click the link below to read about their year in review by President Tony Lane.

It’s Been a Great Year

First I would like to thank the We C.A.R.E. Board, CRMC, Our Members, Volunteers, and the Community that has given so much time and support to the organization. It is though your efforts that allows We C.A.R.E. to provide support and services to our community.

We C.A.R.E. has had a really good year in 2011 with the launching of our website wecarefresno.org and the sponsorship of the centerpiece documentary We Were Here at the Reel Pride Film Festival.

In March we went to San Diego to attend the ASCEND training sponsored by the AIDS Alliance out of Washington D.C.. This training focused on how to reach out and give Community Discussions on HIV/AIDS.

In April we had our second Tea Dance (Red Party) at Club Legends.

In May we attended a fundraiser for Fresno Pride Parade at Swiggs Sports Bar where we did some community outreach, handing out condoms. We also attended a Cover Girls fundraiser for the Pride Parade at Club Legends where we did another condom distribution.

In June we launched our website wecarefresno.org that focuses on HIV/AIDS and community resources. We also participated in the Fresno Pride Parade and had an information booth at the parade. During June we also did a community outreach with Fresno Youth Alliance on HIV/AIDS.

In July we did a second community outreach this one with PFLAG Fresno on HIV/AIDS.

In September we sponsored the centerpiece documentary We Were Here (30 years of HIV/AIDS in San Francisco). We also spent five days at the Film Festival doing community outreach. We were also at the LGBT Health Fair at the LGBT Center.

In October we attended the Imperial Dove Courts Ducal Ball to accept a generous donation from the IDC as part of their charitable contributions to the community.

In November we attended the launch of a new youth oriented website mylgbtplus which focuses on the youth community, with this We C.A.R.E. agreed to help them with their health forum on the website.

In December we had World Aids Day, United Student Prides Masquerade Ball, ISBAH benefit and finally our Green Party Tea Dance.

In 2012 look for us to continue with our Community Outreach programs, Tea Dances, along with increased work with Community Medical Centers Specialty Health Clinic and some more educational programs.

Thank you,

Tony Lane We C.A.R.E. President.
