You knew it wouldn’t be long before the howls commenced, right? The Tea Party Nation has jumped into the fray, and they’re not at all happy that everyone but they and their wingnut buddies seem to be OK with the “First Kiss” of Petty Officer 2nd Class Marissa Gaeta and her girlfriend Petty Officer 3rd Class Citlalic Snell. Gaeta won the raffle for first kiss on her ship the USS Oak Hill. A Navy tradition, the winner of the raffle is granted the honor of the first kiss when the ship returns to home port.
The Tea Party Nation is not happy. In a blog posted by Alan Caruba, TPN accuses the Navy of being “used by gay and lesbian advocacy groups as a petri dish to force social change.” Apparently TPN believes the Navy can go up against the likes of the Nazis, the Soviets, and the Imperial Japanese, but are powerless before the gay lobby. (if only!)
In what has to be the winner of the clueless statement of the year award, Caruba makes this astounding statement, talking about his time in the Army in the 1960s:
At the time, there was no such thing as “gay rights” and, were it not for the incessant demands for them, they would not exist today.
Gee. If it wasn’t for all those demands for gay rights, there wouldn’t be any today. Well… duh!
