Gay nativity scene vandalized in Claremont

Via: KTLA-TV

The Claremont United Methodist Church had quite a swell nativity display of three  silhouetted couples, one gay, one lesbian and one straight. Well, it was a nice display until some vandals decided to knock over and break the gay and lesbian light boxes.

The artist of the nativity scene, John Zachary, told KTLA:

“I wanted to be clear, and without a doubt, that the gay and lesbian, homosexual community, was just as included in this process as anyone… It is a serious thing. It’s an attack on a group of people who are innocent and harmless.”

Perry on Lawrence V. Texas: Huh?

In an appearance today in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Rick Perry either had another brain fart, or demonstrated he’s probably the dumbest worst informed of the GOP’s current crop of candidates.

Asked about Lawrence v. Texas, the Supreme Court case that started in Texas, Perry said “I wish I could tell you I knew every Supreme Court case, I don’t. I’m not a lawyer.”

Since he drew a blank, he claimed it was a “gotcha” question, and changed the subject.

The Advocate.com has the story, here.

What do you get when you mix 100 priests and the place Jesus was born?

Apparently you get some really touchy priests who argue over who shall pay to fix the leaky roof. Maybe they just had a bit too much communion wine? No?

You’d think the priests and monks in Bethlehem’s Church of the Nativity would be a much more friendly bunch, considering that’s where Jesus was born an’ all.

“I don’t approve of your lifestyle”

As a group, most of us have had those words directed at us at some point.  As a gay kid growing up against a backdrop of sanctimony in a small town, I have heard them more than once. Of course, we tell ourselves that what people think doesn’t matter and that as individuals we don’t need any ones approval to live our lives.

Recently though, I’ve really begun to think long and hard about that phrase. Continue reading

Glitter Bombing: the Scourge of Mature Adult Political Discourse

I think we can all remember a moment in our late teens or early adult hood when we needed to discuss something important with our parents, something that they would likely disagree with you on, but you needed to be a mature, responsible adult and have a mature conversation because that was the way to resolve the issue at hand.

10 minutes into the conversation and they don’t seem to be agreeing with all your well-thought out arguments.

So instead you start yelling at them in the middle of the living room, jumping up and down, acting like an idiot, throwing glitter all over the place and then you storm out of the house.

Oh wait, sorry, that was a segment of the gay community during a protest Michele Bachmann’s clinic in Minnesota.

This didn’t even start out mature. In fact, the people at the clinic dealt with the situation with much more grace than I would have under the circumstance’s.

I would have called the cops.

This was just embarrassing to the gay community as a whole.

Sorry, I thought the gay community was trying to have a mature debate over the legalities of same-sex marriage. Clearly I missed the memo about how we were going to revert to being 5 years old and start throwing tantrums to get what we want.

Same-sex marriage is a serious topic, one that needs mature discourse, not glitter bombing.

You want same-sex marriage? That means being an adult, because, last I checked, 5 year old children can’t get married.

You want to be treated as an adult. Then you better start behaving like one.

By the way.

This glitter bombing was done by the same guy that glitter bombed Newt Gingrich.

(btw: This video is hilarious)

I know when you are pissed off at someone, it seems easiest to throw a fit and scream at them. Believe, me, I know. That story up there at the top, minus the jumping up and down and glitter, and plus a little hysterical sobbing, is actually something that I’ve done before.

But you lose respect when you react in that way.

So next time you get pissed off and feel the urge to dress up like a barbarian and go scream at a receptionist somewhere, because you think it will be a great way to get your point across…don’t.

Brave souls start GSA in North Carolina

Amy Waller (left) and Allison Bovée (right)

Amy Waller and Allison Bovée are some brave, brave souls. They started a GSA in Mitchell County of North Carolina almost two months ago, and they need our support.

The Mitchell County Gay Straight Alliance is a group who ”works toward ensuring equal rights and justice for lesbian gay bisexual and transgender (LGBT) people in Mitchell County, North Carolina.” However when the Mitchel County GSA tried to meet in public for the first time in Bakersville, they were met by protesters who did want the GSA to indoctrinate and force their gay lifestyles on children.

Below is a video from YouTuber ‘lifeinMitchellCounty‘ interviewing some of the protesters, and the founders of the GSA, Amy Waller and Allison Bovée. As you watch the video, you can see one side has a message of love and inclusion, and the other of exclusion and abhorrence. You can guess which is which.
