$100 fine for Public Acts of Gayness in Russia

Russia just isn’t a healthy place to be if you’re not heterosexual. Moscow legislatures are trying to pass a bill that fines anyone who promotes homosexuality, lesbianism, and transgenderism to minors, and now a similar bill might pass in St. Petersburg fining anyone 3,000 rubles ($97.50) for “public acts” supporting LGBT issues. If you’re apart of an organisation, you could be fined as much as 50,000 rubles ($1,620).

A huge problem is the bill never defines “public acts”, while pride parades will obviously be fined, could you be fined for kissing, or holding hands in a public park? How far will they take this bill?

The bill passed the first reading, but still needs to pass two more to become law. While Russia just decriminalized homosexuality in 1993, if this bill passes, it looks like they’re heading back in that direction. It also raises the question of how will the UN respond after recently condemning Iran for gay human rights violations?
