DoD: Chaplains may conduct same sex marriages

“A military chaplain may participate in or officiate any private ceremony, whether on or off a military installation, provided that the ceremony is not prohibited by applicable state and local law. Further, a chaplain is not required to participate in or officiate a private ceremony if doing so would be in variance with the tenets of his or her religion or personal beliefs. Finally, a military chaplain’s participation does not constitute an endorsement of the ceremony by DoD.”  UnderSecretary of Defense, Clifford Stanley. PDF of the memo, here.

European Parliment calls for WHO to stop classifying gender dysphoria as ‘mental illness’

Hey there transgender community, soon you will no long be looked upon as someone who is mentally ill (at least in Europe that is)! The European Parliament has passed a resolution calling for the World Health Organisation to stop classifying gender dysphoria as a “mental illness”. Right now the WHO’s International Classification of Diseases lists gender dysphoria as a “mental and behavioral disorder”.

The legislation passed on Wednesday, reading as:

“The European Parliament calls on the Commission and the World Health Organization to withdraw gender identity disorders from the list of mental and behavioral disorders, and ensure a non-pathologizing reclassification in the negotiations on the 11th version of the International Classification of Diseases.”

Remember the solider that recorded his phone call coming out to his dad the day DADT was repealed? Well he has released the video of him coming out to his mother. This guy has got quite a pair of brass ones. Coming out to your family can be terribly difficult to begin with, but the courage that it also took to post a video of your coming out online to help others is inspirational.

Americans opposed to gay marriage dwindle: survey

“Nearly half of Americans support same-sex marriage and the proportion who are accepting of homosexuality is increasing, University of Chicago researchers said on Wednesday.”

“The results show a clear ‘trend toward greater tolerance regarding homosexuality,’ said Tom Smith of the National Opinion Research Center at the University of Chicago.”

Is your favorite celeb gay? Google Gaydar might have the answer.

Go to Google and type in “is” and then a letter of your choosing, and almost every time in the top five suggestions it will give you “is [celeb starting with your letter] gay?”. It seems Google has finally gotten fed up with how often it’s asked if someone is gay, and just giving you an answer as the first result.

Google is great at answering the question for those who are out, but for those celebs who the debate is still out on, Google’s Gaydar falls short. If you ask if Anderson Cooper is gay, the first result you get is his Wikipedia page, and the following articles speculate his orientation. Continue reading
