Homophobic pilot makes huge mistake

A Huston based Southwestern Airlines pilot takes accidently turns his microphone on, and boradcasts his displeasure for “gays grannies and grandes” because he can’t invite any of them to his “cockpit”.  While the pilot was broadcasting his rant, he was prevent the control tower on the ground from communicating with other planes that are trying to land, and make adjustments to their flight patterns.

Here’s a little snippet of his homophobic rant.

“Well, I had Tucson to Indy all four weeks and, uh, Chicago crews … 11 out of 12 … there’s 12 flight attendants, individual, never the same flight attendant twice… Eleven (expletive) over the top (expletive), (expletive) homosexuals and a granny. Eleven. I mean, think of the odds of that. I thought I was in Chicago, which was party-land. … After that, it was just a continuous stream of gays and grannies and grandes …”

You can listen to the uncensored raw audio here (WARNING:EXPLICIT), or listen to the censored version from Click 2 Huston here.

Southwest Airlines told us the pilot was suspended without pay, but wouldn’t say for how long considering it “a family matter”.

The Federal Aviation Administration also made a statement saying it “expects a higher level of professionalism from flight crews, regardless of the circumstances.”

    • I saw another post later today, and the pilot has already completed “diversity training” and is flying once again. Apparently this incident occurred in March.

And X-, below, their website makes it VERY clear that they are a very supportive ally to our communities. I am glad that your experience was so positive

  1. This saddens me… But I know how strongly Southwest Airlines supports the LBGTQ community first hand and feel it is my duty to share my positive experience so as to balance the negative.

I attended a LBGTQ and allies youth leadership/advocacy day in Sacramento this year and the flight to and from this event (GAYLA/QYAD) was comped by Southwest airlines, furthermore on the way home the flight attendants thanked us for what we had done and conveyed the pilots thanks as well. Because of that (and price) I’ll be flying Southwest every time I fly, even if I could afford some “nicer” airline, there is NOTHING nicer then supporting a company that supports your community.
