Rich Swier describes bullying as “peer pressure” and “healthy”

Tea Party Nation’s Rich Swier sent a message out to his fellow Tea Party members likening homosexuality to drugs, and says bullying is really “peer pressure” and “healthy”.

I can’t remember the last time I’ve read something so infuriating.

This is not bullying. It is peer pressure and is healthy. There are many bad behaviors such as smoking, under age drinking and drug abuse that are behaviors that cannot be condoned. Homosexuality falls into this category. Homosexuality is simply bad behavior that youth see as such and rightly pressure their peers to stop it…

Rev. Al Sharpton teaches NOM’s Brian Brown a thing or two about rights

I couldn’t agree more with the Reverend. It is your right to hold the opinion that marriage is between a man and a woman, however it is not your right to mandate that opinion.

And I reserve the right to call you filthy names for holding the opinion of something so stupid.

Brazil already has civil unions, but Monday a state judge approved the nation’s first gay marriage. Way to go Brazil!

Sao Paulo state Judge Fernando Henrique Pinto ruled two men could convert their civil union into a full marriage. Brazil’s Supreme Court cleared the way in May for the recognition of same-sex civil unions, but stopped short of approving gay marriages.

Drama at the Chicago Pride Parade

The Chicago pride parade got off to a rocky start on Sunday when they discovered two tires on all 51 floats were slashed. With some help from a local tire shop and $3,000 later, all but 12 floats were ready to go and the parade started on time.

From NBC Chicago:

General Manager Chuck Huser said the floats were fine when he left around 8 p.m. Saturday. But when he got in around 5 this morning, 51 floats — every float at the facility, and all of them destined for Pride — each had two tires slashed.

“This is catastrophic,” Huser told the Times. “This has never happened before, and we have been doing this since 1989.”
Huser said he thinks this was designed to sabotage the Pride Parade.

“99 percent of my being thinks it’s a hate crime,” he said.

Back in 2007 Erin Davis’ 2002 VW Bug was vandalized, with the words “u r gay” and “fag” spray painted across the hood and window. Instead of trying to wash it off and getting the car repainted, Erin decided to embrace what happened and make a statement about it. She took her “fagbug” around the states and made a documentary out of her journey.  You can watch her whole documentary on Hulu here.

New York’s Pride and Prejudice

Gay New Yorkers had a little more than Pride and marriage on their minds this weekend. After the victorious ending to the marriage equality debate, New York’s gay community experienced a shocking evening.

Several New York agencies conducted an unannounced inspection at a local gay bar called the Eagle. According to the New York Times, the police stated that this inspection occurring on the same night of the marriage ruling was coincidental. The inspection was apparently scheduled several weeks in advance. Additionally, the marriage equality vote was delayed by several days, however the Pride event was scheduled almost a year ago.
